You are walking down the street one summer day and notice someone in a tank top with horribly disfiguring scars. You think to yourself, "How could they have gotten such scars? Was it from an accident? Was it from surgery?" Are those scars so disfiguring that you are afraid to talk to that person?

Disfiguring scars can be terribly embarrassing for the victim. They may be self-conscious about how they appear during the warm months of the year. Have you ever noticed someone at the beach who always wears long sleeve shirts or long pants? It may be that they have disfigurements somewhere on the body that they simply don't want others to see.

My grandfather (82) is suffering from early dementia and had a few bouts with pneumonia. After he recovered from the pneumonia, he stayed in a rehab to regain his strength so he could return home. At the rehab, he suffered unnecessarily on at least 4 separate occasions due to the incompetence of the rehab staff which set him back terribly in his recovery. We are looking for someone in the Anne Arundel/Baltimore Co areas. My mother, his POA, has asked me to help her find a lawyer and I’m not sure how to select the best one.

I don’t even remember the decade. I started thinking of back in the time they didn’t advertise and neither did lawyers, and medical expenses were affordable for most. Could that be part of the reason for the outrageous charges? Advertising and fancier hospitals to compete with each other instead of the basic tiled and white walls like in the 60’s. We are paying for that advertising and competition when we pay for higher insurance or pay our bill.
Wasn’t their a code of ethics for members of medical associations back then that said there was no advertising?

I cannot understand the need for advertising when you can’t get a Dr. appt. for wks. and your lawyer doesn’t have time to return an important phone call for days. The fountains and waterfalls in hospitals and clinics aren’t so soothing when the bill comes.

I believe we have a reason to file a Medical Malpractice suit for something that occured a long time ago. I understand that some cases can be valid if the patient realizes later that some form of malpractice has occured, but is there a such thing as too long? This isn’t an out-to-get you-kind-of-thing, more of wanting fairness.

It depends on the state and it may depend on the circumstances and on the victim. You need to see a malpractice attorney in your area.
